Children's Privacy Policy

Square Panda is a socially motivated company committed to improving the lives of children. We believe that we can’t improve those little lives if we violate their privacy. Therefore, Square Panda takes privacy seriously. The following privacy notice describes how the Square Panda app collects, uses, and shares personal information, and provides you with contact information in order to contact us to ask questions, or request to have personal information corrected or deleted.

 

USE.Our app only uses personal information to provide our services to help children learn.

Square Panda is a phonics playset that combines early reading skills and multisensory play to unlock learning. The playset includes 45 smart letter toys that interact with Square Panda learning applications on an iPad. Parents download the Square Panda application(s) and install them on an iPad. The applications are aimed toward children 3 – 8 years of age. This means parents set up a profile(s) for their children. Profiles only include a profile word. This word can be anything that the child will associate with themselves when they want to use the application.

The application associates activity data like the accuracy of spelling, words used, and other reading skill data with each profile. The profiles and activity data are available to parents in their parent portal on the Square Panda website so parents can see how their child is learning.

Square Panda does use aggregate anonymous activity data like the most common words spelled or misspelled as it may be. This aggregate anonymous activity data is never associated with a parent or a child profile word. Square Panda uses and may share this information to improve the educational materials, apps and services.

 

SHARING.We don’t share personal information. We put this up front because it’s important.

Square Panda does not share any personal information with third parties as part of our business model, unless you explicitly request (and right now we don’t even know what that request could be). We will share personal information with law enforcement or other governmental agencies when presented with a valid subpoena or court order. We do use third parties to help host and provide our services, however they can only use personal information to provide the services we request and cannot use any personal information for their own purposes. If Square Panda is bought or merges with another company, personal information would also move to that new entity, as would this privacy notice governing the personal information.

 

COLLECTION. We try to collect as little personal information as possible in order to make the app work.

Square Panda collects parent email address, name and other basic contact information. We collect this information to verify your account and app purchases. We also collect this information to enable you to authenticate yourself when you log into the apps or parent portal website.

Square Panda also collects activity data and educational feedback data passively from the child’s interaction with the apps. This information is associated with the child’s profile word (which is also collected) and is available in the parent portal to see a child’s educational progress.

 

ACCESS, STORAGE, DELETION. We give you complete access and choice with your personal information.

Through the parent portal, parents can access the child’s profile, review the educational feedback data associated with that profile. Parents can also request deletion of any personally identifying information of their child by emailing support@squarepanda.com Note that deleting your child’s personally identifying information will prevent us from tracking your child’s educational progress and presenting it to you via the parent portal.

 

SECURITY. It’s really important so we try to collect less personal information and encrypt it as well.

Most privacy notices say they “use industry standard practices to protect the security of the system and the personal information entrusted” and at Square Panda that is certainly true for us as well. The reason for saying this is that if we spelled out exactly what we do, we’d be giving those evil hackers a blueprint for how to defeat the security. So that’s why it’s a bit vague. BUT, at Square Panda, we also focus on minimizing the amount of personal information collected, so that even if there is a problem, very little information could be obtained. LASTLY, we go one step further, and encrypt all of the personal information we store, so even if it’s obtained, it’s further protected through encryption.

 

WE CARE.Seriously, we really do.

As our products and services grow and we need to add to this notice, we’ll make changes and update you via an app alert or email, based on your preferences. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out. That said, we won’t be able to be this transparent if we get bombarded with mail or calls, in which case we’ll have to put in a more automated way of contacting us, so please use common sense.
