Cognitive research shows that young children, especially struggling students, learn best in a multisensory environment. Square Panda includes 46 tactile Smart Letters that add the important kinesthetic/tactile element to graphics and sounds as part of the Square Panda award-winning early literacy system.
Square Panda has shown promising results on the PALS and NWEA pre and post assessments in PreK and K populations. Square Panda helps diverse populations such as special needs students build early literacy skills, with 10 learning games and 14 phonics milestones.
Learners build reading readiness skills in our early literacy games—choosing Smart Letters and interacting with sounds, words, and animations in a personalized learning environment. Square Panda turns every classroom tablet into a supplementary phonics instructional tool.
Teachers monitor progress, manage profiles, and store words and pictures in the cloud—to personalize learning, identify instructional opportunities, and align with lesson plans. The portal is cloud-based and part of the Square Panda Annual Subscription.
"What really sets Square Panda apart are the tactile components. Students are touching and exploring letters while actively engaged in searching for them."
SquareLand is a new and unique world of educational play designed to keep every emerging reader engaged through scaffolded mini-games.
The mini-games adapt to each learner’s level as students explore phonological awareness, phonics, spelling, print concepts, and more through self-directed gameplay. The more students play, the greater the level of personalization.
SquareLand keeps students in the optimal learning zone so they are always challenged but not overwhelmed. At the same time, it collects real-time data on student performance and provides extensive reports in the enhanced Teacher Portal.
Interactive gameplay and range of engaging characters support increased attention and focus, including for special education students.
SquareLand is an ever-growing world with mini-games releasing on an ongoing basis.
Accompanying SquareLand is an enhanced Teacher Portal that gives teachers and administrators real-time assessment feedback as well as control over the deployment of Square Panda in the classroom.
Educators see student progress measured against a multivariable grid of phonics and comprehension skills, to guide interventions and provide insights at the student, classroom, campus, and district levels.Easy-to-read reports for both teachers and administrators provide a window into student progress, time spent, fidelity of implementation, and much more.
The enhanced Teacher Portal also facilitates the management of districts, campuses, and classrooms, as well as licensing and role-based permissions.
The Square Panda Classroom Playset now comes with a built-in QR code, allowing each student to quickly scan himself or herself into the games so that classroom implementation is faster and easier for teachers.
The new playset is also sleeker, more compact, and stackable, with a rechargeable battery and a separate storage bag for the 46 tactile Smart Letters. Annual subscription required.
The Annual Subscription works with the Classroom Playsets to turn your classroom tablets into a multisensory phonics learning system.
The subscription includes up to 30 student enrollments, one teacher and two support log-ins, and access to the SquareLand Early Literacy Curriculum, the enhanced Teacher Portal, online lesson plans, classroom implementation support, and more. Playsets not included.

“The lowest students in the grade cycle through my class to use Square Panda. I have seen tremendous growth. Two students in particular have grown in their word recognition, writing, spelling, and confidence!”
Square Panda is designed for today’s learners—game-based, hands-on, exploratory, and student-driven.
Square Panda's vision is to help early learners acquire their most important formative skill—literacy and reading fluency.
To support this vision, we provide an engaging early reading experience, incorporating the latest research in phonics and multisensory learning in an adaptive educational platform.
"Square Panda addresses a variety of fundamental skills that Kindergarteners need in order to become lifelong learners and readers."
Square Panda combines letters with sounds in a tactile environment, turning tablets into phonics learning stations that leverage sight, sound, AND touch.
Square Panda’s multisensory approach can advance low-performing students’ foundational skills while helping other learners progress through exploratory play.
Square Panda supports children at school and at home—developing early reading skills with an eye to long-term challenges such as dropout prevention.
Square Panda serves as a foundational crosswalk between English and a students’ native language, as learners build their understanding of key phonics principles.
To engage all PreK-3 students, Square Panda advances phonological awareness, rhyming, blending, segmentation, letter-sound associations, decoding, encoding, and more.
Square Panda partners with Dr. Bruce McCandliss, neuroscience researcher at Stanford University, and follows the guidelines of the National Reading and National Literacy Panels.
